Accessibility Statement

Trybe House Theatre is committed to making our website accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability or technology. This statement explains how accessible the site is, what we’re working on, and how to get help if something isn’t working for you.

How accessible this site is

We’ve designed and built this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at AA standard. That means we’ve made conscious decisions about colour contrast, text size, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and other accessibility features.

You should be able to:

• Navigate most of the site using just a keyboard
• Listen to most content using a screen reader (we test against VoiceOver and NVDA)
• Zoom in to 200% without the layout breaking
• Read text comfortably, body text passes WCAG AA contrast on every page background
• Skip past navigation to the main content using the “skip to content” link

Known issues

We’re not perfect. The following are known limitations we’re actively working to fix:

• Some videos embedded from third parties (e.g. YouTube) may not have captions in all cases. We’re working with our collaborators to caption all our published video content.
• Some older photography may not have descriptive alt text yet. We’re auditing the media library and updating it.
• The cookie consent banner is not yet in place, when added, it will be fully keyboard-accessible.

What we use

• Headings are structured semantically so screen readers can navigate the page
• Form fields have visible labels and error messages
• Links use descriptive text, not “click here”
• Colour is never the sole means of conveying information, we pair it with text or icons
• Focus states are visible on every interactive element
• Animation respects the user’s prefers-reduced-motion setting

If you can’t access part of this site, or you’d like a piece of content in an alternative format (large print, plain text, easy-read, audio), please email us at info@trybehousetheatre.org.uk. We’ll do our best to respond within five working days.

If you find an accessibility problem we haven’t listed, please tell us, it helps us improve.

Technical information

This site is built on WordPress with a custom theme. We test against current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on desktop and mobile. We aim for compatibility with the most recent two major versions of each browser.

Last reviewed against WCAG 2.1 AA: add date when audit complete.
