Creative Commissions is Trybe House Theatre’s strand for bespoke, partner-funded productions that sit outside our core programme. When a venue, festival, or organisation commissions us to create a specific piece of work, whether a site-specific performance, residency, or festival contribution, it sits within this strand.
Recent work includes Ego’s Killing the Mandem, created in collaboration with Collective Acting Studio. Other commissions include How Deep Is Your Love, developed with National Youth Theatre, which culminated in a final sharing.
Our Track Record
Past commissions have seen Trybe House Theatre’s ensemble perform on major stages across the UK. Manorism: An Adaptation by Yomi Sode was presented at the Southbank Centre, and The Odyssey: Episode Five – The Underworld was performed on the Olivier stage at the National Theatre as part of Public Acts.
Each commission is different, but all follow the same approach: ensemble-led, member-centred, and rooted in wellbeing. Members are involved from the outset, contributing ideas, writing, and performance material, with professional artists guiding the process. Where possible, members are credited and paid.
For Commissioners
We work with venues, festivals, local authorities, and cultural organisations to create work with and for young Black men. Our approach combines a clear creative methodology, a strong ensemble, and integrated wellbeing and safeguarding.
We are flexible in format and scale, from intimate studio work to large-scale productions. We can respond to a brief or develop original ideas in collaboration.
Impact
Each commission creates meaningful outcomes for members, alongside documentation that can support reporting and future development.
We’re always open to discussing new commissions and exploring how we can create meaningful work together.
