Wellbeing & Mentoring

Group sessions and 1-to-1 mentoring led by our Wellbeing Lead, a medical doctor with a background in psychology. Embedded across all programmes.

Wellbeing sits at the heart of Trybe House Theatre. Our Wellbeing & Mentoring offer combines group sessions with 1-to-1 mentoring across all programmes.

The work is led by our Wellbeing Lead, a medical doctor with a background in psychology, bringing both clinical understanding and culturally informed practice. This is not therapy, but a proactive approach that uses creative work as a gateway to expression, reflection, and emotional understanding.

Group wellbeing sessions are embedded within our core programme, using creative exercises and discussion in a way that feels natural and accessible. 1-to-1 mentoring is available for any member who wants space to talk through personal challenges, relationships, or future goals.

Where needed, we support members to access external services, including local Mind charities and community-based provision, with referrals to clinical services where appropriate.

Our intent

Aims

  • Normalise conversations about mental health and emotional wellbeing among young Black men
  • Provide accessible, culturally informed support that doesn’t rely on clinical settings
  • Equip participants with practical tools for managing stress, conflict and transition
  • Identify and respond early to safeguarding or welfare concerns

The experience

What to expect

Group sessions use creative exercises, discussion prompts and reflective practice. They’re participatory, not didactic — no-one is put on the spot. 1-to-1 mentoring sessions are informal and confidential, typically lasting 45 minutes, and can focus on anything from personal challenges to career planning.

What you'll leave with

Outcomes

  • Increased emotional literacy and self-awareness (measured via termly check-ins)
  • Reduced barriers to engagement with creative programmes
  • Appropriate onward referrals where clinical support is needed
  • A culture of openness and mutual support within the Trybe community
